“So we built the wall… for the people had a mind to work.” — Nehemiah 4:6 (NKJV)
There will be seasons in life when it feels as though you’re being hit from every angle. Unexpected bills arrive. Plans change. Discouragement creeps in. The weight of responsibility feels heavier than your strength.
Nehemiah understood what it meant to build while facing opposition. As the walls of Jerusalem were being rebuilt, the work didn’t stop simply because difficulties arose. There were critics. There were threats. There were moments that could have caused God’s people to quit. But Nehemiah kept the people focused on the assignment God had given them.
Sometimes our opposition doesn’t come in the form of people. Sometimes it comes through financial stress, disappointment, unanswered questions, or unexpected setbacks. Those moments can tempt us to stop building what God has placed in our hands.
But Nehemiah 4:6 reminds us that the work continued because the people kept their focus.
Keep writing. Keep praying. Keep serving. Keep trusting. Keep building. Don’t allow today’s frustrations to convince you to abandon tomorrow’s purpose. And Moms just know I’m talking to myself as well. Don’t get it twisted… I for sure have not arrived. The enemy comes for me just like he comes for you. I’m encouraging myself today while I encourage you.
The enemy would love for our focus to remain on what is falling apart. God tells us to keep our eyes on what He is building.
We may not have all the answers today. We may not see how everything will come together. But we can still build. Not because it is easy. Not because every problem or situation has been solved. But because the God who called you is faithful to strengthen you for the work He has given you.
Today, whatever God has placed in your hands…
BUILD ANYWAY!
Prayer
Abba Father, when discouragement tries to steal my focus, remind me of the assignment You have given me. Help me not to be distracted by every obstacle or overwhelmed by every challenge. Strengthen my hands for the work You have called me to do and give me the faith to keep building even when I cannot yet see the finished result. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection
What has God called you to keep building, even in the middle of life’s challenges?
