Responsibility
Use this as a simple conversation guide during dinner, car rides, or quiet time together.
Start the Conversation
Mom:
“Let’s talk about responsibility. What do you think that word means?”
(Let him answer first.)
Then ask:
- What responsibilities do you think you have right now?
- Why do you think responsibility matters?
- How do you feel when you forget something important?
Teach Ownership
Ask:
- What should someone do when they make a mistake?
- Is it better to hide a mistake or admit it? Why?
- How can I help you grow in responsibility?
Then affirm him:
“I believe you are capable of being responsible. I correct you because I love you, and I’m teaching you because I believe in you.”
Scripture Together
Read together:
Luke 16:10
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”
Discuss:
- What are the “little things” you are responsible for right now?
- How do the little things prepare you for bigger things later?
Practical Activity
Choose one responsibility for the week (example: making his bed daily, organizing backpack nightly, feeding the dog, completing homework before screen time).
Create a simple responsibility tracker together.
At the end of the week:
- Discuss what went well.
- Discuss what needs improvement.
- Pray together.
Close in Prayer Together
“Lord, help us grow in responsibility. Help us to be honest, dependable, and trustworthy. Give us patience as we learn. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
